Lionhead Trail Work

  • Lionhead Region Cameron, MT 59720 United States (map)

Lionhead trail clearing, an annual tradition, is July 12-14 this year. Here's what it looks like:

  • Camp Friday night at Mile Creek Trailhead. There is a shallow creek crossing which can be handled by a Ford Focus and is great for cooling yourself off. Portapotties are present.

  • We will do a safety meeting around 7:30pm and split into groups for trail work the following day. Each group will have an experienced rider with a chainsaw and we will divide up the remaining volunteers based on shuttle capacity at the endpoints.

  • Be prepared for a big, backcountry ride, 4,000-5,000 ft of climbing and descending, helping take a whole bunch of trees off the trail, world class views, and maybe fix a drain or two if we have the numbers for it. SWMMBA will arrange the shuttles back to camp and food Saturday after trail work.

  • Most will hang out afterward and camp Saturday night. There are plenty more trails available in the area for anyone who feels ambitious and wants to ride or do more trail work on Sunday, groups gather less formally for this.

  • Things that should be in your pack: bear spray, tube, tool, gloves, pump, layers, 3L of water, and lunch.

Please RSVP through the Job Calendar. We can't guarantee being able to feed you unless you RSVP by July 3rd, please also specify if you have a dietary restriction. We can put you into a group at the last minute, but it also helps us figure out shuttles the earlier you respond. If you aren't up for the ride, let us know, there is a need for shuttle drivers, camp tasks, and possibly an easy trail option if we have enough participants.
