Southwest Singletrack: Mountain Biking Is a Family Affair

Copper City was always intended to be a family-friendly riding destination. The stacked-loop trail system is perfect for progressing from beginner to expert, all from the same trailhead. We knew Copper City would appeal to families, but we’re still blown away by how enthusiastic folks have been about getting out. We recently caught up with SWMMBA members the Flammangs. Here’s what Jeff Flammang had to say about his family’s connection to Copper City:

“My kids love mountain biking, and Copper City in general.  Ava is eight years old and this will be her third year of riding with the Bozeman Youth Cycling group, and Easton is six years old and will be his second year with the group. Not only does he ride weekly with the Bozeman Youth Cycling group, he also rides BMX three days a week with the GVBMX group. We are definitely a busy bike family! The kids love to unplug with mountain biking, being outside, and being able to overcome the challenges of a trail is awesome for their self-confidence. Copper City in particular, has been a great family experience. The kids enjoy the flow of the trail, climbing on rock piles, and dreaming of riding down the Neversweat Trail and hitting the Jumps like the ‘pros’.  Making the most of the evening we enjoy finishing our ride with a fire and roasting marshmallows and enjoying the beautiful sunset.”

Jeff also spoke about the importance of SWMMBA membership and why he joined. “I became a SWMMBA member to be involved somehow.  I work a ton of Saturdays and it is hard for me to get involved on dig days. I follow your Facebook and Instagram posts which inform me of what is going on and if I can help in anyway.  With the loss of many trails in the area, I think it is important mountain bikers get their voice out in the community. We are one of the smaller user groups in the Valley so I think that it is important for us to speak as one.”
